1. Practical benefits beyond reducing carbon emissions

The community energy projects that we undertake always tangibly improve the quality of life for those that we work with. For example, our energy efficient stove and solar stove programme in Madagascar reduces fuel costs by four times, a huge difference if half of a family’s income is spent on fuel.

Carbon offset programmes like BVCO are the best way of funding small sustainable development programmes in a country like Madagascar. By working with expert partners, we are able to fund community energy projects which will make a difference to the impoverished in Africa and beyond.

We are developing Carbon Ofsetting projects that have carbon emission reduction benefits but also those that assist in funding an sustainable energy future for communities in developing countries.

2. Climate Change Action

Central to the BVCO ethic is reducing carbon footprints and taking climate change action.  We do this is two ways:

• Mitigation – working with business & individuals to reduce their carbon footprint by managing their energy costs at the point where emissions are created
• Adaptation – our projects work with those affected or likely to be affected by climate change on community energy projects that will assist their further development and sustainable livelihoods in a changed environment,

3. Carbon Footprint Management

BVCO is committed combating climate change by reducing emissions and carbon saving through efficiency and lifestyle changes before offsetting through our projects. We are committed to making carbon footprint reductions first.

We provide one to one consultation, with a management plan tailored to your particular business or personal needs, on reducing emissions before calculating any offset needed. 4. Permanent and sustainable

BVCO does not invest in any project that has uncertain carbon reductions, or whose success cannot be measured over an appropriate length of time, such as forestry schemes.

5. Additional to other schemes

Our projects always demonstrate that they make an additional benefit to the community or the environment. I.e., the carbon reductions would not be made without BVCO funding.

6. Independent, personal, and not for profit

BVCO is a small not for profit organisation directly manages it the carbon offset finance through community energy projects and provides energy management consultancy. No third parties are involved; we transfer all profits into our offsetting schemes; and provide a friendly, personal, and memorable service from first contact to renewal.

7. Quality assured

All our community energy projects funding through offsetting finance; including the calculations and methodologies are verified by an independent body, and are reassessed on a regular basis. Please view our Methodology for more information on how offsets are calculated.
